FORTNIGHTLY COMMENT
FESTIVAL OF CULTURES 5TH JULY 2012
As many of you will be aware the Festival of Cultures is one of the key events in the school year and we hope that this will again be the case for 2012. As in recent years we will be having workshops run throughout the school day in three, ninety-minute sessions with the students selecting which workshops they wish to attend and in some instances displaying or performing what they have made or learnt during the evening.
As in previous years we have managed to obtain some new workshops for the 2012 Festival including puppetry & exploring world issues. These will be in addition to the usual range of workshops including dance and music from around the world, aspects of art, drama & cookery, and a return of some workshops from previous years including African drumming & opera singing. During the evening event which runs from 6.00-9.00pm there will be as usual the eagerly anticipated food hall, organised by the Parents’ Association, in which examples of cuisine from around the world will be available to purchase at very reasonable prices. The approach initiated last year of having three distinct & separate performance areas will be continued.
Students in Years 7-10 have already been asked to indicate which workshops they would like to attend during the day and we hope to extend the opportunity to participate to those Year 12 students who are not assisting in the administration of the day. Next week students will be given a letter, which will allow you to purchase tickets for the evening event. Please can I encourage you to support the school by attending the evening event and the letter given to your son will also be put on the school web site in case it does not reach you. Any questions concerning tickets should be raised with Mrs Ward in Student Services on 0121 327 1130 or at b.ward@keaston.bham.sch.uk
Even at this relatively late stage in the planning process we are always looking for further help and members of the Festival of Cultures committee will be contacting parents requesting donations for the food hall. Please do not hesitate to contact the school or Mrs Jane Willis (Chair of the Parents’ Association) at janewillis@blueyonder.co.uk or on 0121 382 1099 if you are able and willing to help in any way.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the Festival of Cultures evening event on 5th July.
