Sixth Form Open Evening
As you will be aware from the school calendar, the Sixth Form Open Evening this year will take place on Monday, 12th November from 6 – 8.30pm. The evening will provide the opportunity for both students and their parents to find out about the sixth form at Aston including information on the academic subjects being offered and the extra-curricular opportunities that the school provides. Students need to begin to make plans and decisions about where they would like to study for their A levels and this evening forms an integral part of that process.
The evening will begin with an introduction by the Headmaster and will be followed by a talk from the Head of Sixth Form on what life in the sixth form at Aston entails and our expectations of students during their two years of study. This will be followed by a short talk on the range of enrichment activities which are on offer to all sixth form students. Lastly, but for prospective students probably the most important, a short talk from a year 13 student on his experiences in the sixth form.
During the remainder of the evening, prospective students and parents will have an opportunity to visit different departments where Subject Leaders will provide you with further information on their subjects. Current Year 11 students will be given a copy of the Sixth Form Prospectus before the evening with all other students being able to collect one on the night.
This is an opportunity for students to start addressing, if they have not already started to do so, the very important decisions that they need to make in relation to their futures after the GCSE examinations. Sixth form open evening is the start of that process and I look forward to speaking to many of you on 12th November.
